Address by the representatives of the camp inmates survivors and the Roma’s community
Banja Luka, 17.04.2005. Never forget and never allow happening again the genocide of Jasenovac and Donja Gradina, in any form and for any reason. After the wrenches were laid at the grave field "Topola" and the liturgy served for the Jasenovac’s victims at the grave field «Košute» at the commemorative ceremony in Donja Gradina on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the break of Jasenovac camp inmates, holocaust and victory over fascism, from the black-and- white stage, at which are dominating three symbols: wheel, cross and David’s star, the attendees were addressed by the Chairman of the Association of the Camp Inmates Survivors Gojko Knežević.
Knežević said that he begs all generations of the world to not forget and to never allow to happened again the genocide as happened in Jasenovac and Donja Gradina, in any form and for any reason whatsoever.
"The horror we survived and pass to the new generations are aimed to never forget this biggest underground town, that constantly echoes with horrifying screams of those who die, babies, children, women, men and elders", stressed Knežević.
On behalf of the World Roma’s Parliament Dragoljub Acković, saying that perishing of his people was not even partially described, expressed and shown, addressed attendees of the ceremony in Donja Gradina. He said that Roma’s, as well as Serbs and Jews, have perished because they belonged to other nation, and because they had different culture and different language.
"Everyone who claims that only Roma’s from this area perished here is not saying the truth. Here have perished Roma’s from Belgrade, Kamenica, Kosovska Mitrovica, Macedonia" – stressed Acković and added: "I ask the God, whatever His name is, to not allow this genocide, not only against Roma’s, but against all others, to never happen again".
Attendees of the ceremony in Donja Gradina, the major scaffold in the system of Jasenovac camps, where ustasha’s of Ante Pavelić in that time’s Independent State of Croatia have killed 366 thousand of Serbs, Jews, Roma’s and anti-fascists, were addressed by Arie Livne, the special representative of the World Jewish Congress for countries of the former Yugoslavia, who was reading the speech of Avner Shalev, the President of the Museum of Holocaust "Yad Vashem" in Israel.
The President of the Republic of Srpska and the Chairman of the Organizational Board of the ceremony of 60th anniversary of the break of Jasenovac camp inmates, holocaust and victory over fascism, Dragan Čavić, also addressed citizens.
After this was held the memorial academy "I ask for the amnesty", which was designed by the Academy of Art in Banja Luka, and performed by the actors of the National Theatre of the Republic of Srpska.
