The international day of the struugle against Anti-Semitism and Fascism was marked on November 9, 2009 with an state ceremony. Minister of the Foreign Affairs in the Serbian Government Vuk Jeremić addressed Serbian and international officials present at the event and Serbian public. In Serbia, this day was marked officially for the first time in 2007, in cooperation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jasenovac Committee and the Union of the Jewish Communities. |

On Wednesday, November 25, Hitahdut Olej ex-Yugoslavia awarded protopresbyter-stavrophor Slavko Maksimović who saved remnants of Jewish cemetery in Brčko (Bosnia and Herzegovina). On a special ceremony at Yad Vashem, Miriam Aviezer presented a plaquette to protopresbyter Maksimović and thanked him for his deeds.

Abbot Sofronije (Nikić) participated at Winter Seminar for Educators from Abroad at The International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, January 4-22, 2009, as both candidate of Jasenovac Committee and of long-suffering Diocese of Bihać and Petrovac in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that was struck severely by Ustaši genocide and the Holocaust in the Second World War.

On Thursday, December 18, a custodian of Jasenovac Memorial Area, Jelka Smreka, died in traffic accident; she was laid to rest on December 22 at Gradiška City cemetery. Born in 1953, she devoted her active working years in taking care of camps in Stara Gradiška and Jasenovac. |
