On Sunday, April 17th 2011, a commemoration and a wreath-laying ceremony were held at the Jasenovac Memorial Site in Croatia, by the Stone Flower Monument, in memory of April 22nd 1945, the day of inmates’ breakthrough from the Jasenovac concentration and death Camp.

In Serbia, the National Remembrance Day of Genocide Victims was marked on the Good Friday, April 22nd. The main event was the opening of the exhibit titled “I am losing my life innocently because of wicked and cursed people” in the Kragujevac Genocide Victims Museum, a day before. The exhibit, titled by one victims’ last message, consists of 50 panels with documentary photographs, maps, graphs and victims’ last messages, witnessing great cruelty and large scale crimes committed against civilians during the Second World War in Yugoslavia. At the same day Željko Komšić, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, marked the 66th anniversary of the break-out of the last surviving inmates of the Jasenovac concentration camp by laying a wreath on Friday at the Memorial Center in Donja Gradina. In New York, on April 30th and May 1st the Jasenovac Research Institute organized the traditional Remembrance Day of Jasenovac victims in the Saint Sava Church in Manhattan and at the Brooklyn Holocaust Memorial Park. Krinka Vidaković-Petrov, ex-Yugoslavian Ambassador in Israel, was the main speaker at this years’ commemoration. On May 1st (Apostle Thomas’ Sunday) in Donja Gradina, the Republic of Srpska, memorial service for Serb, Jewish and Roma victims – the event that usually attracts the largest number of people - was held at a major Jasenovac’ execution and burial place. Among Serbian, Republic of Srpska, Israeli and Russian officials that honored the death camp victims were the Republic of Srpska President Milorad Dodik and Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon. In Israel, central ceremony for the Yugoslav Jews who were murdered in the Shoah was held on May 2nd at the Yugoslav Forest in Shoresh near Jerusalem.
